The Wolf Tank Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Laredo, Texas, is a game-changer for the energy industry. This innovative project involved the installation of a state-of-the-art energy storage system that will provide reliable and sustainable power for years to come.
CEC Energy Services was proud to be a part of this groundbreaking project, which required significant excavation work, cable installations, and testing of cables and terminations. The project comprised 45 MV rectifier skids with 90 battery energy storage system skids, making it one of the largest energy storage systems in the country.
One of the most notable achievements of this project was CEC’s commitment to safety. The CEC field crews completed this project with zero recordables and zero lost times. As a result, CEC was recognized as achieving the Customers’ first-ever perfect safety audit score.
This project was a collaborative effort that involved the dedication and hard work of many team members. We would like to recognize Lee Ramirez, Richard Chambers, Landon Willis, and Ryan Batts for their efforts leading to the success of this project.
The project’s start date was October 4th, 2022, and it was completed on June 30th, 2023. During this time, our CEC team worked tirelessly to install the underground conduits, ground grid system, communication cables, low voltage cable, and MV cables. They also tested all cables and terminations to ensure they were working correctly.
The Wolf Tank BESS project will be a huge benefit to Laredo, Texas, and the surrounding communities. It will provide reliable and sustainable power, reduce the risk of power outages, and help support the growth and development of the region.
